I’d like to think so. But Ifill shouldn’t have been picked to moderate the first place. And I can’t imagine the people that put her in this position didn’t know what they were getting. Along with her pro-Obama bias, she was one of the ones saying that Palin - as a mother of five - had no business serving as VP. And she’s got a “Gloooory to Obama!!!!” book coming out.

She can ask just ONE “gotcha” question that hurts Palin, and cripple her at the knees. The appearance of Palin flailing is more damaging than the charge of Ifill being biased.

Jim Lehrer actually did a fair job moderating McCain-Obama. I was surprised.

There’s a joke about how a biased “moderator” can destroy one side: a small plane is going down, and they have one less parachute than they need. Two men - one white, the other black - are vying for the last chute. A “moderator” offers to “moderate”.

He says to the white guy: “What was the worst maritime disaster in history?” And the white guy says, “The sinking of the Titanic. 1500 people died.”

“Correct,” says the moderator. He turns to the black guy: “Okay, what were the names of all the victims, in alphabetical order?”

It doesn’t have to be that blatant. A subtle moderator can do all kinds of things that would escape the attention of most viewers.

This debate will be huge. It may decide the election. And Gwen Ifill gets to be in charge?

I suppose Hitler had about the same amount of messianic chutzpah as Kim Jong.
