A story about a man and a bracelet. A story about how Barack Obama came to wear a fallen soldiers bracelet. A fallen soldier named Sergeant Ryan David Jopek.

We know about this bracelet because of a “ME TOO” event that took place during the debates the other night. I’m talking about when John McCain held his arm up and talked about a family that gave him a bracelet to wear in memory of their son. Barack Obama, in turn, did the same…but something was different; something was not right; incomplete, if you will.
We turn to the transcipts of the debate…
McCAIN:
And I’ll tell you, I had a town hall meeting in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, and a woman stood up and she said, “Senator McCain, I want you to do me the honor of wearing a bracelet with my son’s name on it.”
He was 22 years old and he was killed in combat outside of Baghdad, Matthew Stanley, before Christmas last year. This was last August, a year ago. And I said, “I will — I will wear his bracelet with honor.”
And this was August, a year ago. And then she said, “But, Senator McCain, I want you to do everything — promise me one thing, that you’ll do everything in your power to make sure that my son’s death was not in vain.”
That means that that mission succeeds, just like those young people who re-enlisted in Baghdad, just like the mother I met at the airport the other day whose son was killed. And they all say to me that we don’t want defeat.
The “ME TOO REPLY” OF BARACK OBAMA:
Jim, let me just make a point. I’ve got a bracelet, too, from Sergeant - from the mother of Sergeant Ryan David Jopeck, given to me in Green Bay. She asked me, can you please make sure another mother is not going through what I’m going through.
THE KICKER:
The mother of Sergeant Ryan David Jopek is an Obama supporter and is the one that gave the bracelet to Obama. She also later asked Mr. Obama to stop wearing the bracelet with her son’s name on it. She apparently didn’t want all the attention used to score political points. So what does Barry do, leaves it on and draws attention to it. Was it that important to him not to be out done by John Mccain? Is it acceptable to the MSM that Barry crossed the line and disrespected the wishes of a family that lost their son? All class and no shame. That’s our Barry!

This interview was from March, according to Warner (you can hear it at this link). It’s possible that they have changed their minds again, and not unlikely, given the family’s support for Obama. Jopek is divorced from his wife and may not have been speaking for her. If Tracy Jopek wanted Obama to continue to use the bracelet to make this case, or changed her mind about him stopping, then Obama did nothing wrong.
