I am honored to announce that I have chosen Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska as my choice for the Republican nominee for Vice President. As a father with three daughters, I can’t express how proud I am to choose the first female Republican Vice-Presidential nominee.
Sarah Palin is a trailblazer and a reformer. As the first female governor of Alaska, she challenged a corrupt system and has been a tireless advocate for reform - passing a landmark bill on ethics reform. She has taken on the old politics in Alaska and reformed the state’s energy industry. She rejects wasteful pork barrel spending. She’s fearless - exactly the type of leader I want at my side and the type of leadership we will bring to Washington.
My friends, together Sarah Palin and I make the strongest presidential ticket and I know that she joins me in asking for your support as we head into our Convention week in Minnesota. We’re shaking things up in this campaign - and Governor Palin and I are ready to bring real reform to Washington.
The polls indicate this will be a tight race as we head into the fall campaign against Senators Obama and Biden. I expect the polls to remain close all the way up to Election Day and that is why any help you can give today will go a long way to make history on November 4th.
You may already know that I have decided to accept federal matching funds for the final months of this campaign- keeping a campaign promise I made. But that means that August 31st marks the last day I can accept your primary contribution. McCain has finally won me over. I have not been happy with him as our candidate - I have not felt I could trust him, and I have been waiting to see who would get the nod for Veep. That would, I have felt, tell me whether he’s going to tilt left or right, and if left I was seriously considering sitting out the election on the ground that if we’re running liberal against liberal I’d just as soon the Dems get the blame for what transpires.
With Palin’s selection I am frankly overcome. She’s got the independent streak McCain likes; the way she’s expressed her independence has been in the best interest of the Republican Party - and more than that, in the best interest of the public; she’s a strong woman, a feminist (though conservative), a Christian, a happy person, and she can obviously fight; she’s comfortable in her own skin, as is McCain - and all good leaders - and unlike Obama; and she’s accomplished. She is going to be able to pull Hillary supporters - and was quite frank in her desire to do so in her comments today.
McC gets my vote, now. I’ll even make a financial contribution, now. And I’m looking forward to Palin running for the top spot in either 4 or 8 years! She’s our next generation stepping up.
So, the knuckle-dragging Republicans have advanced more blacks, hispanics, and women to high federal office than the enlightened Democrats; and now we are putting forward the first female quite likely to be VP. I have felt for some while that McC would pull this election out; now I think he and she are going to walk away with it with a comfortable margin. They are a truly strong team.
We continue to be the party of Abe Lincoln, they continue to be the party of Geo. Wallace.
