It’s time for Nancy Pelosi to put her (or should I say “our”) money where her mouth is. Today House GOP Leader John Boehner announced House Republicans have introduced the “American Energy Act”.

Passage of this act would open the Outer Continental Shelf, ANWR and other oil rich areas for oil and gas exploration, among other measures. Republicans are calling this an “all of the above” strategy that promotes conservation while easing the burden on Americans. For Congressman Boehner’s press release click here. It’s about time Congress has an up or down vote on this legislation. Read More.

Nice. If the Dems can’t say yes to this, they may find themselves finally on the bottom of this struggle.

  • Maybe it will be the rope we can hang them with!

  • If the price of oil is dropping as a result of Bush lifting the ban on drilling, think how much more it would drop if congress lifted the ban.

  • Bruce Hector M.D. says:

Your plan to drill for more oil in this country is a plan to rob our children and grandchildren. In 1950 the US was the world’s leading exporter of oil. By 1970 our production peaked and has since been reduced to less than 6%. We do not produce oil; nature did over millions of years. All we do is drill and extract the resources nature made in this land for all time. To rob the little remaining resources of our future generations needed to produce petroleum products like plastics and pharmaceuticals and instead burn it pumping carbon dioxide and water into the air is a senseless waste of all that God has given us for all time.

Conservation and alternatives are strongly indicated but any action to lower the price of fossil fuel will only lead to waste as it did in the 1980s. Who is going to guarantee that any oil drilled here will not be sold overseas to maintain the fantastic profits of the oil industry? Does the bill compel the industry to sell here at a lower price than the global market allows? If not, then you are allowing the industry to take the last of our national resource for current profit.

Rather, you should be encouraging us to realize that this resource will only become less available while its demand will increase as the remainder of the world develops. We are best to save what little oil we have left for our future generations. You need to remove all incentives provided to the oil industry so that alternate resources can compete effectively. Undoubtedly the price will rise and we have no reason to think the oil industry will not pursue the market that realizes the greatest profit for its executives and stockholders.

Pleas stop this senseless naïve belief that we can drill our way out of the energy crisis.

Take a deep breath and try to relax. There is absolutely no reason why we can’t drill more oil as we transition to a renewable resource. We are at absolutely no risk of running out of oil for the forseeable future. Furthermore there are already some synthetic replacements for petroleum (for limited uses at this point) for plastics. If you want to worry about our children, you should be worried about the ones who are already struggling under the weight of a world economy that has been raped by environmental hysteria and the oil peak myth it has created.
