Sign the petition. Call your congressman. Kill the “Fairness” Doctrine

About the Author:  Born in Boston, I lived and worked in the D.C. area for a time, but have spent most of my life in Tennessee, where I graduated from the University of Tennessee. My political philosophy could best be described as eclectic, though mostly right of center. Read more from this author

Those who fail to act for the preservation of liberty deserve the tyranny they receive. Free speech is under assault by the politically expedient Democrats who want to use the powers of the FCC to batter opposing viewpoints.

Can’t get to petition signing sites. Do not take away our
freedom to listen to differing opinions. I am older now and
have seen all our freedoms being eroded by a government that is no longer for the people. I want to listen to opposing
opinions and you don’t have the right to take that away
from us. If you can come up with something better I would
have listened but you haven’t. This is not socialized America even if you feel it is. I don’t want to live in a global socialized communistic world so stop it.

I am a low-income conservative with a narrow concern I have never seen addressed. Broadcasters licensed to operate over the scarce public airwaves have an obligation to serve the public interest.

Since the “Fairness” Doctrine was retired, talk radio has flourished. In general, I applaud this, and am a regular listener.

However, my low-income status allows me to see a glaring void which has been unaddressed by profit-seeking broadcasters. (Please don’t suggest that elitist NPR serves low-income Americans!)

Where is there talk radio for low-income Americans? Specifically, where are the low-income talk show hosts? You don’t - and won’t - see them in a market-driven medium. (Who would spend advertising dollars to reach a demographic with little or no economic power?)

Letting the market decide in a medium with narrow bandwidth has not served and will not serve the interests of low-income Americans who desire talk radio which addresses their concerns.
